Recently created Public Act 102-895 makes changes to a couple homestead exemption amounts, but only in the Collar Counties (DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will); and the new exemption amounts will NOT BE ON TAX BILLS UNTIL 2024. For Joliet Township residence the General Homestead Exemption will increase from 6,000 to 8,000. Additionally, the Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption will increase from 5,000 to 8,000. Both increases will be for the 2023 assessment year payable in 2024.
The 2022 assessment notices will be mailed August 6, 2022, for only those properties that had a change in assessed value for 2022. The deadline to file a formal appeal with the Will County Board of Review is September 12, 2022.
